On 10 July, Alūksne Poultry Farm (Alūksnes putnu ferma) marked a major construction milestone by holding a traditional topping-out ceremony for its three new laying hen houses. The event symbolically celebrated the completion of a significant stage of construction and confirmed that Agrova Baltics’ EUR 30 million investment programme remains on schedule. The new facilities are now being progressively prepared for the installation of advanced production equipment required for barn egg production.
The steel structures of all three laying hen houses have now been completed. In two of the buildings, the installation of wall and roof structures has reached its final stage. Installation of laying hen housing equipment has already commenced in one of the buildings, while another is expected to reach the required level of readiness for equipment installation later this month. Construction works are being carried out by Aimasa Ltd., with construction supervision provided by Būves un būvsistēmas Ltd. The laying hen equipment will be supplied by Big Dutchman, one of the world’s leading poultry technology companies.
“The topping-out ceremony is a long-standing construction tradition that marks the successful completion of another important stage of the project. We are pleased that construction is progressing according to schedule and that we are gradually moving from structural works to equipping the facilities with state-of-the-art technologies for barn-based egg production. This investment is important not only for the development of Agrova Baltics, but also for the Alūksne region, as it will create one of the most modern egg production complexes in the Baltics, generate new jobs, and strengthen the competitiveness of Latvia’s food production industry in European markets,” said Hermanis Dovgijs, Chairman of the Management Board of Alūksne Poultry Farm.
As previously announced, Agrova Baltics launched its EUR 30 million investment programme in Alūksne and Preiļi earlier this year to meet rapidly growing demand in European export markets for eggs produced in barn housing systems and to establish one of the Baltics’ most modern, fully integrated egg production complexes. The programme includes the construction of three new laying hen houses in Alūksne, the modernisation of the egg grading and packing centre, and the development of an organic fertiliser production facility. In Preiļi, new infrastructure for pullet rearing will be developed.
Alongside the construction works, the company is also continuing the design phase for the reconstruction of its egg grading centre. Upon completion, the facility will operate a new AI-enabled grading line with more than 2.5 times the current processing capacity. Following completion of the investment programme by the end of 2027, the company’s annual egg production capacity will reach approximately 280 million eggs, further strengthening Agrova Baltics’ position as the leading producer of barn eggs in the Baltic States.
